Steve of N21 left this review about Marr Lodge
I didn't hold out a lot of hope for this one when detouring off the nearby A1 to find somewhere for lunchtime eats, with its prominent 2meals for £10 and all day carvery signs indicating the usual low rent roadside eateries I tend to try and avoid.
But fortunately inside this is a smart pub restaurant with local ales and decent food and good service levels from the chirpy young uniformed female staff . A recent refurb has provided a very smart modern and comfortable interior with several individual sections. And then there is a very nice outside sun trap patio area and a small turfed garden.
We went for the 2 for £10 menu and couldn't fault our fish and chicken choices for quality and quantity at that price.
On the beer front there are three Real Ales and a cider on pump on the bar. Doombar and Black Sheep were on one beer section and Acorn Brewery Marr Gold (clearly Barnsley Gold rebadged for the pub) on the other. We tried all three and they were in good condition.
Fine Gastro fare this clearly isn't, but for a decent lunchtime pint and good pub food, the Marr Lodge hit the spot for us.
