An odd set-up but a great example of diversification which has kept a decent pub open. The car park is opposite the pub and has a stall selling cider one side and a ‘cider meadow’ the other. Crossing the road is a perilous venture due to high traffic volumes, and you enter straight from the street into the pub. There are three small bar areas, none of which actually feels anything like a bar or dining room. The layout and furniture, plus the mass of apple-based good for sale, makes it feel like a cross between a funeral parlour and a village fete. Two draft ales on, both from Cheddar Brewery, both in first-class condition. Cheddar ales are also available in bottles to drink here or take away, as are various ciders. There was a lot of home made cold food on offer, which was really good value. A bit unusual, but worth stopping for a snack and a few beers and a drop of cider.
