David Walton left this review about The Arches
Visited 18/08/25. Visited previously on 19/12/23.
No cask beer. A single tap on the bar counter providing Camden Hells. A range of beers by the bottle.
This is a lovely and quirky neighbourhood wine bar that I try to visit when vaguely in the area albeit tonight was the first visit for a while. There are a few tables outside on the pavement but inside on the ground floor it is quite compact with the bar counter towards the rear (not far from the entrance) with a couple of stools at the bar counter and on the right-hand wall opposite. There is a small courtyard out the back. At the front of the venue are four small tables with regular chairs plus a wooden banquette along the left-hand wall serving four similarly small tables with regular chairs the other side thereof. There are a lot of glass shades hanging from the ceiling, a fraction of which have operational bulbs, and there are a shed load of curios and knick knacks on shelves and suspended from the ceiling especially around the bar counter. There is a downstairs area, seemingly with its own bar counter but not obviously operational on my mid Monday evening visit. Music was enjoyably middle of the road - when was the last time I heard the Nolan's in anything other than a social club? Dead to pure cask beer fans but a very pleasant place to go and drink some wine.
