An interesting-looking building in Brewers Tudor with additions, which seems to function nicely as a village local, despite being a little bit isolated on the edge of the village. It's multi-roomed, with a large fireplace glimpsed from our place near the bar, which is in the first room we came to on entering - I think there may be another entrance too, but we didn't have the opportunity to explore as it was quite crowded. There was a lively atmosphere when we called in on a Sunday evening - we were staying at the youth hostel in the woods at Dimmingsdale. A quiz was taking place, which we did our best to ignore as we had entered towards the end of round three, but the quizmaster kept on noticing our presence and inviting comments - we'd have loved to stay and provide further entertainment but we had to go while there was still enough light to retrace the path through the woods.
Beers on the bar were St Austell Tribute, Hydes Jekylls Gold and Brains Reverend James - not a very inspiring offering, perhaps, but we tried a couple and they were in good condition, and very welcome too after the hard cycle ride we'd had to get to this lovely part of Staffordshire. The pub was awarded the local Camra branch's Pub of the Month in August 2013.
