Occasional cask here now. An utterly flat Castle Rock last time (NBSS 1.5) at over a fiver – daylight robbery. Get your pre-event beers at the Ale Wagon. The food is alright though.
June 2014
A cafe bar in the new theatre complex open to the public. A range of Langtons bottled ales (£3.50) plus two handpumps (Langton Inclined Plane and Hop On). Local Bottle Kicking ciders from Hallaton (£3.90). I tried a half of the Hop On from pump and it was terrible, warm and tangy. Tried one of the bottled ciders (Rambler) which was a decent medium-dry brew though again the fridge coolness left a bit to be desired. Open-plan inside with colourful tub chair seating, arty film negatives on the plate glass windows and a selection of board games. Paved beer patio with table tennis (bats and balls inside). Mixed punter-base including a collection of hardcore gamers. Food offered, we ate here and it was a fair price for what we got. Overall it serves a function but they really shouldn’t bother with the cask ale as they clearly have no clue as its care. Rated 5
