Originally The White Horse Inn and dating from around 1740, this country hotel has a bar which is open to the public. There is a large car park at the back and a small garden area among the various outbuildings. The bar is reached through the hotel lobby and is dog-friendly. Food is freshly cooked and good quality, but it isn't cheap. There is an OK wine selection. There was one ale on, Exeter Fraid Knot, which was gravity dispensed from a small pantry behind the bar and was in excellent condition, but like the food, very much overpriced. The staff were young and, with one rather hostile exception, friendly and enthusiastic. It's quiet, with no electronic distractions other than WiFi, somewhat gentile and a good place to have lunch and a pint or two, but the prices put me off making it a regular venue.
