This grand Georgian Hall and Woodhouse county hotel is reputed to incorporate Dorset's oldest pub; it is supposed also to be haunted. The large ground floor bar and restaurant, now open to non-residents again, is divided into 4 main lounge and dining areas which creates the impression of a rambling country house, an effect amplified by the large formal garden at one side. The grandeur is slightly undermined by the actual bar, the dire background music and a cheap hotel atmosphere. There are wooden floors, a mixture of seating arrangements, friendly bar staff and a civilised clientele base, some of whom are almost, but not quiet, genteel. The food is not a strong point, but it's edible at a push. Most of the Badger range of beers is available, and I had a pint of Holey Moley, not Badger's finest brew but well kept and rather enjoyable. Good for an evening out or inclusion on a crawl, and it makes for a convenient B&B if you happen to be in the area.
