ORIGINAL REVIEW April 2014
Food available and open on a Wednesday lunchtime, the handpumps had Youngs Bitter double clipped,so this was a very brief inspection.
UPDATE
After a long closure new tenants have moved in.It's a large pub directly opposite the attractive church .The interior is now open plan ,so use either entrance door from the front .To the left is a pine floor ,while to the right is carpeted and has more interest, with seperate banquettes in a variety of coverings .One section had a small tv with BBC News 24 while beyond was a pool room. The furniture in the main body of the pub is also banquettes and dining type tables but the whole feel of the place is quite characterless, not helped by the muzak coming from a commercial radio station playing rave music.
Food is available but not on my Saturday night 8pm visit and the pub was very quiet ,probably not helped by a reggae disco being held at the other pub in the village which was packed. I saw signs that said reggae disco was on at the Five Bells shortly so that may help, but it was dead on my visit.
Two handpumps with London Pride reversed so just Bath Gem (decent but a dull brew,NBSS 3,£4.60).
Not enough to justify a return visit, not too sure how this pub will fare in the future.
