A quaint thatched pub in the largest house in a chocolate-box village, well off the beaten track. This brick-built long building has had half its ground floor knocked through and extended to the rear to provide a dining room, bar and games room. The latter has a pool table. The dining room is laid as a restaurant, while the bar has a counter at one end, a large bay window which makes a glorious sun-trap in the evening and a brick chimney breast with a wood burner. It is slightly spoilt by the bookshelf wallpaper which completely fails to make it look like a library. Restaurant-quality food is sold at a reasonable price, and the wine is good. There are a few tables at the front for al fresco drinkers and smokers to enjoy the evening sun. Free wifi is available and there is no jukebox, tv or gaming machine to spoil the ambiance. B&B is also available. The staff and locals are very welcoming indeed. Two ales on – the EPA was in perfect condition and very much enjoyed. This is a truly excellent pub, well worth the trek, and I'd be happy to eat or drink here anytime.
