Strongers . left this review about County Hotel
The County Hotel is one of four pubs in town, two of which were open during a recent Tuesday early afternoon visit. I actually thought this place was closed due to the door being locked and lights being out, but wandering around the other side of the pub I found the door open to a vault that was hosting ten or so aging locals. I assumed that the closed right-hand half of the pub is used as a function room. The vault is quite basic with seating, a fireplace with log burner and a couple of televisions that were off, although live sport is advertised, as is regular Friday night live music. I imagine the band/DJ set up in the back bar where there’s a lot more room. In here is sparce seating, a pool table and a couple of dartboards.
The service was polite, but the two hand pumps stood unused leaving a standard keg range available alongside Madri. This is a friendly local pub that serves a purpose.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about County Hotel
Substantial Victorian hotel, still offering accommodation. Two bars in operation - a refurbished room in the centre under a coloured roof-light dome, and a larger, darker bar off to the side (with two disused handpumps). So no real ale on offer, but at least ked Old Speckled Hen (£2.50) was available as an alternative to the inevitable John Smith's.
