This is Hook Norton's second remaining pub with the Bell having closed and the Gate Hangs High being well outside of the village to the North. It's unrecognisable from the small local pub I vaguely remember from the past. The house next door seems to have been added on as well as much extending at the rear. It consists of a modernised open plan L shaped room. There is some sort of function room at the rear right and a patio leading to a garden that in the rain looked as though it may still be having work done. It wasn't that busy on a Saturday afternoon but it's such a large space for a village pub there could well have been busier than it looked.
The bar has five hand pumps which had Wyld Wood Cider and four Hook Norton beers. I went for the Hooky (£3.60) and the Summer Haze (£4.00) which were in good nick but like their other pub expensive. Hook Norton tied houses used to be relatively cheap. Apart from that it's not a bad place but the Pear Tree is better.
