Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Westwood Park
With the nearby Royal Oak charging almost £100 to stay the night, I opted to stay in the much cheaper (£40) Westwood for an overnight trip to Welshpool. Arriving before 4pm on a Friday, I found the pub closed. It does indeed open at 4pm during the week.
There is a tiny car park to the left of the building. About 7 rooms can be find upstairs above the pub, which is a single-roomed affair popular with locals. I had left the pub to try the Royal Oak and returned just after 4pm to find the Westwood fairly busy. The landlady informed me that a local darts team would be present later in the evening.
Before I continued a crawl of Welshpool's drinking establishments, I stopped for a swift half. There is just one solitary handpull, which was dispensing Hobson's Best. As a pub, I probably wouldn't normally have bothered visiting here, but with the Royal Oak's exorbitant prices for rooms, it would have been remiss of me not to have had a drink in the alternative place I was staying.
