I was rather dreading coming in here; the setting isn't great, and the idea of a cocktail bar in Bridgwater sounds like the setting for a horror film. The pub is situated in a back alley cul de sac alongside the rear ends of some bottom-end businesses, including a Chinese restaurant, with no grounds of its own, and looking out at the dual carriageway. Once inside the decor is a mixture of faux-nautical and Estonian gay bar, a bland of post-apocalyptic cammo and bright purple lighting. The seating in the main bar is on a raised platform at the side, and there is a separate function room called The Brunel Link, which was closed when we visited. The mainstay is cocktails, and there is a selection of megakeg ciders and lagers on draft. No real ale, so we plumped for Butcombe Original in over-cooled bottles. The staff were pleasant, and the other clientele were the more mature elements of the local population. It's certainly more civilised than some other town centre bars, but I don't think I'll be rushing back.
