The ale has gone from here, as appears to be the case in most of the Loungers outlets.
July 2013
Opened at the start of May 2013. Usual Loungers concept; mid-market clientèle, food, coffee and a real ale in Bristol Beer Factory Toga Man. Situated in Woodley shopping centre, which is traditionally dead after 6pm (bar teenagers street drinking) and its only nearby 'competition' is the Chequers. My visit yesterday found the bar/servery woefully understaffed - just one poor bloke doing his best as an orderly queue formed, snaking round the bar, trying to order everything from food to coffee to alcohol with (inevitably) most orders being processed by card. Décor follows the usual format of the latest Loungers openings, with some nasty retro prints (Tretchikoff “Chinese Girl’ era) and lashings of kitsch. Although in this one they've painted most of the ceiling bar the concrete RSJ's which sit festering in their grey, undressed glory. To be fair it was very busy and the Toga Man was surprisingly selling in quite high volume, meaning my pint (straight or handled, mate?) was in decent nick, even if as a beer it's pretty pedestrian. If my visit is indicative of the level of business and volume of beer being served, this probably tells you that a) Woodley really needed something like this and b) the nearby pubs aren't rated much by a large section of the populace. It should do well.
