Strongers . left this review about Tavern on the Green
Much bigger than the outside suggests the open plan Tavern on the Green is a little too far out of town to attract anyone other than locals. Because one could be forgiven for mistaking this for a Yates’ the majority of patrons on Friday evening last week were students, builders and Sunday league footballers. Plasma screens are located throughout and during my visit the third/fourth place World Cup Rugby game was being aired. Unfortunately the sound was muted in favour of some loud dance music. I found this strange, especially because Sky Sports was advertised and it was obvious that some had gone in with the purpose of watching the match. The L shaped neon lit bar was stocked with standard draught products and I spotted two hand pumps that were drawing Harveys’ Best and Greene King IPA. Food is available from opening at 10:00 until 21:30 every day of the week. The food is very cheap with the mains costing around £5. There is also a children’s menu with smaller dishes priced at around £3.
Out the back is some seating covered by umbrellas and to the side of the pub in a playing field is a large children’s play area. Dogs are welcome in the garden area. This pub has an extension until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
I found the service to be polite, but the half of generic lager I received was flat as a pancake. Being so cheap I would probably use this pub if I lived locally, but I saw nothing on this visit to warrant another walk from Three Bridges Railway Station.
