Real Ale Ray left this review about The Prospect

A well positioned pub along the quayside facing west, so can be a prominent spot for alfresco drinking out front in the patio area. The interior was a good size with terracotta painted walls and ceilings apart from a white painted panelled section near the entrance and raised area on the left of the bar. The bar area was finished in a dark mahogany which was shaped like the hull of a boat. The staff were all smartly dressed and very welcoming. Plus the beer quality across their four pumps was excellent. I went for the Hanlon's Yellow Hammer, the 3 other beers were Dartmoor Legend, Otter Ale and Exeter Fraid Not. This pub also serves food and can get very busy at lunch times.

Despite being in the middle of the quayside tourist hotspot, this is quite a nice pub. An old building over several levels with a smart interior, perhaps a bit heavy on the arty touches but pleasant enough. There are of course tables outside also. A bank of 4 handpumps had Hanlons Yellow Hammer, Exeter Avocet, Dartmoor Legends and Otter in fair condition.

Multi-level quayside pub, owned by Heavitree. This might have had a classic interior many moons ago but is now quite sanitized (a bizarre multi-shade orange carpet and white wood panelling) although it’s not completely terrible. Four ales, Otter, 2xSt Austell and Dartmoor Jail. My Jail Ale was pretty warm and tired, quite expensive too I recall. I managed to bag the best table up the steps in the cosy area overlooking the quay. Shame it was dark and pissing down outside, meaning I couldn’t actually see a thing. Irritating piped muzak from the corporate CD collection grated. One bonus was the was showing the PDC darts final at least. Pretty deserted, in contrast with the Waterfront a few yards away. I doubt I’d bother with a return visit given the competition.
