An off-the-beaten track boozer down a narrow lane from the village of Flamstead run more akin to a private house than a pub and which appears to have been the same for many a year (the small room to your left as you enter is, in essence, a small sitting room). The bar area which is to your right is narrow, so there's little room at busy times (like a Sunday lunchtime). Plenty of locals in attendance and two old dears were holding court behind a bar proferring Otter Bitter as its solitary ale (£2.85 a pint) and heaving with two large jars of pickled onions and wallies - things I've not seen in a pub for many a year. There aren't many left like this one, so worth popping your head in if in the locality if just for the novelty value, although it's rather funky inside - not sure whether it was the locals, dogs or just the general smell of the place. Background muzak was also unnecessary and did steal away some of the place's ambience.
