The Lighter Inn is a quayside Hall & Woodhouse pub with a large patio out the back full of picnic benches that also wrap around to the left-hand side of the pub. Being on the quayside there are lots of boats to look at, if that’s your sort of thing. Inside there’s a serving counter across the rear wall to the left where it faces raised seating along the front windows. In the right front corner is the Woodhouse Room that contains some high tables and in the right rear is a room with the feel of a dining area. No televisions, but there was some background music playing. Premium keg was available and being a H&W pub the four hand pumps were drawing Tanglefoot (x2), Rust and Reverie and Fursty Ferret, the latter being £2.70 for a half. The service was very friendly, but I generally find the pubs of this brewery to be a bit sterile so I’d probably not bother again, although the outside seating is a major draw so maybe I’d be enticed back again on a nice hot summers afternoon.

A Hall & Woodhouse conversion of a quayside building into a food orientated pub.The quay on the Exe is known locally at Tuborg Quay once the danish lager was exported here in the 50's.There is a vast outside seating area next to a river lighter in a side tidal dock.
The pub interior has a low roof and some nooks and crannies, there are two dedicated dining areas although there is a drinking side snug with a collection of high tables. It's full of tourists ,mostly eating so I went outside to just drink.
Only Badger ale available on my trip with their Best Bitter,Fursty Ferret and Tanglefoot (decent ,NBSS 3.5) together with a few Badger kegs.
Too foodie for me,I wouldn't put this pub on a Topsham crawl list.

Old commercial inn catering for the tourist trade and serious ale drinkers alike. As the name suggests it is on the Exe estuary where passegers used to alight. Good food and good beers in a charming coastal village location. Well worth visiting.
