On a corner plot just across the road from Spitalfields Market, the English Restaurant is now known as the Market Coffee House. The bar is found in the left-hand side with a serving counter across the rear that faces seating along panelling under front and left-hand windows. There are two unused hand pumps and five or so keg fonts for the listed European lagers. I went for the 8% Cherry Chouffe that went down so well that the following week when I saw the bottles in Tesco I ended up getting a few in for the Christmas period. After being served I banked off to the right before being informed that the right-hand side of the building is a dining / family area. This led to a little confusion as to why there was a young couple with a baby sat in front of the keg fonts in the middle of the serving counter in the bar area. I deduced that this place isn’t really a pub, so I’ll be leaving it to the families and tourists in future.

I used to have the occasional 'business meeting' here when I worked nearby, especially after the Gun across the road closed. Despite its name it's just as much a bar as a restaurant, with tables for eating on the right as you enter and more traditional pub seating on the left. There are a couple of handpumps with beers from local smaller breweries. A bit pricey, and plays to the tourists at Spitalfields Market opposite.
