I was hoping for something good to recommend from my visit here, but I have to say that multi-purpose premises like these do not float my boat. The more pub-like part is to the left on entering, but even this struggles to meet the mark, being more like a cafe-bar than anything else. To be fair, there are five hand pumps on the bar (with three beers - listed on a blackboard - on at the time of my midweek visit), but the person serving was obviously not au fait with real ale, although she was friendly and willing. Like the sadly lacking condition in the beer that I had, perhaps service is better at weekends, when more turnover and dare I say expertise may lead to a better experience for customers.

an end terrace pub, that once formed a part of the Millom Workingmen's Club. As its sister place, the Millom Workies is next door (the games and keg beer outlet) and plain, this at least has some interest. The place is predominantly in cream, but is broken-up by pilasters - a sort of tan painted set on the lower storey and in stone on the upper storey. The interior is a single room in cream, white and red, with some fake wall beams. The polysyrene ceiling tiles betrayed the former use maybe. There is green perimeter seating, as well as rough wood tables and chairs, and old photos on the walls. Dotted about, there are some models of ships, some brasses and some books. The TVs were not on and the music was general and at a decent level. The service was fine and again, the locals friendly, engaging in conversation (which is why i ended up staying here). Beer; usual tap stuff with Leeds Pale, Naylors IPA, Cotleigh Tawney Bitter, Concrete Cow Midsummer Ale and Hardknott's Atomic Narsissus - i was in here for a while and had halves of all - well kept. This is a nice friendly place and without doubt, i would return.
