A super-smart, posh gastrobar with no real ale. Even the keg offerings are unattractive, with a couple of lagers (I think I can remember seeing Peroni) and a cider, plus "craft" beers from Meantime and Yeastie Boys. A half of the last named set me back £2.95 - general price for a half of cask beer in Gainsborough is more like £1.90, but I suppose someone has to pay for all those expensive dining tables and chairs. There's a lounge to the left of the bar, but I've never seen a more uncomfortable-looking room in my life. I went and sat at one of the tables on the pavement out front.

This pub is the only town centre pub to offer camra discount of 10p off per pint to CAMRA members. It has recently been bought out and Neil is keen to up the quality and content off the beers in there. He is supposed to be having at least 1 beer from the local Grafters Brewery on at all times.

It still has the front doors from it's days as a Rechabite Hall, and the interior never shakes off the hall feel. The decor is minimalist with a large refectory table with bench to the left of the entrance,a small bar midway down one wall and a pool table and darts board at the rear. There are steps up to a mezzanine level which was unused on my midweek trip.A couple of flat screens show sport, and this open plan interior is more bar than pub,it all feels a bit empty. There are five handpumps, with a 10p CAMRA discount per pint making my Rudgate Battle Axe good value at £2.40.With only three handpumps functional at a quiet time,I could not form a decision on whether there is a good ale range, but it may be worth popping in to see what's on offer from this free house if crawling around town.
