Close to the station and the wonky church, pargeting to the parapet indicates that this was once the White Swan until 2019.
The interior is largely modern, catering mainly for what would seem to be young people, the venue smelling strongly of short order food all to a rather raucous ambience.
There were 12 pumps with three pseudo ‘real’ ciders, me plumping for a half of Oakham Citra at a pricey – for Chesterfield - £2.30 and good.
Not too bad as part of a crawl and handy for the railway station, but I wouldn’t call this a destination pub in its own right.

Rated: 7.5.

Always good to see a pub reclaimed, and I thought this former Chinese restaurant was now functioning as a decent pub. I could imagine that the large one roomed high ceiling internal space could lack a bit of atmosphere when there is not many in, but on a Friday evening when the place was packed out, it was literally jumping.
Well named as a lot of people do come here to eat, but with the impressive row of 12 hand-pumps, which were dispensing nine ales and three ciders for our visit, it’s a very good pub just for a beer as well and should definitely be considered in any beer crawl of Chesterfield, especially given its proximity to the railway station.

A large ground floor pub in a sizeable building ,it's close to the station so a good place to start or finish a crawl. It was really busy at 7pm on a Friday evening. The entrance corridor has some seating, there is a raised area to the right with dining style tables and lighting provided by hanging chandeliers .Immediately infront of the bar are ranks of high tables but these as well as the dining type tables may have reserved signs on them ,thankfully with the time of the booking.A high shelf seperates the levels and was a resting place for the crawlers pints when we were forced by arrivals to drink vertically.
The handpumps on my trip were drawing Ossett White Rat,Oakham Citra and Bishops Farewell (NBSS 3.5),London Pride,Thornbridge Jaipur IPA,Ossett x Northern Monk Marple Red Ale,Titanic Plum Porter,Castle Rock Elsie Mo and Vocation Winter Bloom. There were three handpumped ciders.A very decent ale line up marks this out as a must visit on any real ale crawl, visiting at a quieter time would have enhanced the visit.I will call in again.

A nicely done-up bar with a long counter at the back holding an impressive dozen handpumps with a good range of beers from the likes of Thornbridge, Abbeydale, Salopian, Ossett etc. Well worth a visit and helpfully close to the station.

I was here a few weeks ago, for a quick visit, when the presence of 10 Abbeydale beers on the bar confirmed the information on Facebook: a tap takeover. My half of Black Mass - the devil's beer, with an abv of 6.66% - was nothing like as good as I remember it from Devonshire Cat days (or more often nights), but this can be the problem with festivals or takeovers: the beers won't all settle and mature at the same rate. That was my first visit since the change of name and ownership, though the 12 hand pumps on the bar are still the same – I decided to come back when normal service was resumed, and this week there were beers from Ossett, Oakham, Brains, Thornbridge, Roosters, Peak, Titanic, Bad Seed, First Chop and Lincoln Green. My half of Roosters Thousand Yard Stare was as good as when I had the same beer at Sheffield's Itchy Pig back in January, and my drinking companions were happy with their beers too. This pub is, as ever, handy for the station and therefore a good place to start or finish a Chesterfield crawl.

A large pub with a one large open plan room with the bar along the back wall, hosting an array of twelve ales on handpump. Seating consisted of barstools, high tables and cream leather banquette seating near the patio entrance. The front area was a carpeted raised section, with plenty of seating choices. We went for the Peak Ales Chatsworth Gold, which was very well received, as I hadn't seen it once on our crawl, plus it was in excellent condition. We also went for the Raw Brewery Mucky Duck, which was also top class. Another bonus was it was only a short dash to the train station from here.

12 real ales on. Bouncers on Door. Busy, with an eclectic crowd of all ages, race and sex.

Could spend all evening here, but there's plenty to explore.

As noted below this is a modern decor pub that is associated with the RAW brewery.
The 12 hand pumps had a great selection (apart from the Abbot) with three from RAW, two from Blue Monkey and others. I went for the Blue Monkey Bonobo & Infinity+1 (£3.30) and took them out to the pleasant patio. Both were in excellent condition.
The Blue Monkey beers were a real bonus for me here so I liked this one a lot.

A very good pub beerwise but a bit rubbish fixture and fittings wise. An extremely bland modernish interior is forgivable due to the beer selection. Of the 12 handpumps 4 were RAW brewery stuff and the rest guest ales. Its literally a stones throw from the crookerdy spirey churchy thingy. It gets a good score for the beer selection.

Old Boots left this review about The White Swan

I only visited the ground floor of this modern bar, pretty much all wood with tall leather upholstered stools at tall tables, even the bench seating is tall, walls are plain cream and the floor is laminate. In the front part you can sit at normal sized tables and chairs and look at the bottom of the church with the crooked spire. In spite of the foody set up there are twelve hand pumps with a range of generally local beers, the exception being Greene King Abbott, they're mostly pale beers of course. The beers I tried were in fine condition. There are a couple of T Bars with a mix of national kegs and some craft, there are also well stocked fridges again with a mix of craft and the prosaic. Upstairs appears to be for a live music venue.
