A magnificent roadside pub in 1930s Brewers Tudor, now by-passed by the main road but still serving the suburban householders in this part of Bramhall. WhatPub mentions that it was refurbished in 2015, and it's still looking good. Largely opened out, but still with hints of the original rooms and features, with the entrance on the right still labelled Tap Room, though it is not clear whether this doorway is used other than for wheelchair users. There are eight hand pumps on the bar, with three more in the tap room, though two had "coming soon" labels on them. Half were Greene King beers (IPA, Abbot and Old Speckled Hen plus its Golden variant), plus Doom Bar, Tribute, Titanic Plum Porter and Rudgate Ruby Mild. Anyone who knows me well will have predicted that I'd go for the last named, and it was in excellent condition. This gives the impression of being a food-led pub, but they must get through a serious amount of real ale to keep all these on the go, though I suspect they must surely be using cask breathers.
This was only my second pub of the day, and so far they'd both been really good.
