Bucking Fastard left this review about Brookfield Freehouse
A rather austere building with few windows , with a large rear extension and a rather utilitarian garden which was out of keeping with the smart village further toward the river. It looked more like a WMC than a pub,and it is certainly a community local where everybody knows everbody else. However the welcome was friendly and the two clipped handpumps(out of four) were dispensing Doom Bar and a correctly poured Pedigree(£2.90 and in good shape)
The interior is rather sparse with a high ceiling ,recently made over with a laminate wood flooring, whitewashed walls, modern looking bar with spots lights and pine tables with alternating black and white leather seats. However around the walls there were interesting photos of times past in Barrow Upon Trent.A large rear lounge was sectioned off by folding glass panelled doors, while the pool table in there stood unused .There was a book share collection, two fruit machines and a flatscreen featuring a noisy music channel while the food offering was limited to some baps on the bar.Occasional live music.
The pub serves the local community well, but it's not high on my list for a revisit.
