Located in one of the old Brakspear brewery buildings (look for the ironwork arch over the side entrance) this is a fairly upmarket bistro operation, although there is no problem simply getting a drink in the main bar beyond reception. The main bar and drinking area are separated by a high brick archway which has been ill-advisedly painted powder puff purple. Otherwise the brick walls are whitewashed, the floor is wood plank laminate and there are some button leather banquettes. Zinc topped bar with one handpump at the serving – fittingly, Brakspear Bitter which sadly had seen better days, though a faint bonus was that I was pretty sure I got more than a half via an unlined and unstamped goblet glass. Noted a decent selection of bottles in the fridge, so it’s not all doom and gloom as a drinking experience. 4.5

Built on the site of the former Brakspear brewery (now moved to Witney) you can access the bar (confusingly headed 'Champagne Bar') from an archway off New Street. They offer Brakspear Bitter, as you'd expect, for £2.50 a half (which I didn't expect). There's fancy dark-wicker seating in the courtyard outside with Perrier Jouet umbrellas reminding you of the company you're keeping. Again, another one to tick only if your life revolves around hardcore PuG visits.
