A very traditional front-room village pub with a friendly welcome and excellent beer. It's been a GBG regular for decades so how it's avoided inclusion on PuG is a mystery. Entering the double fronted terraced cottage the bar is to your right with a sitting area on the left with benches around the walls and an open fire. Nothing much has changed here in half a century, including many of the decorative nic-naks around. The back room has at sometime (my guess is in the seventies) been converted into a games area with pool table and darts, and there is a garden behind. Beer is absolutely delicious Hook Norton bitter and a guest (I think it was from Slaughterhouse but I'll stand corrected) and you still get the choice of a glass or a jug. While we were there it was someone's 80th birthday. He's had half a gallon or more a day of the stuff for the last sixty years and looked as though he'd easily do sixty more.
The guvner, in whose family the pub has been for ever, was bemoaning the hard times in the Trade, and that so few villagers use their local any more. They will, of course, be up in arms when it's gone the way of so many of these rural gems. Get there while you can, this one is definitely worth special trip or at least a detour off the nearby M40.
