A traditional, no frills boozer in the centre of the village, it is a good size internally consisting of a lounge bar to the right and a public bar to the left along with a skittle alley behind. The two bars have separate entrances out on to the street but are also interconnected internally.
Décor wise, it is perhaps looking a little dated with patterned green carpet on the floor in the lounge, some green velvet banquette seating at the back, pine cladding on the lower part of the walls and bar counter and rough Artex type plasterwork elsewhere. A small brick fire-place was towards the front of the pub, although this was not in use on our visit. A shelf ran along the wall with a number of small shields on it and there were a few old black and white photographs on the wall including one of the station at Pill which closed back in the 60’s (although incidentally should be returning soon with the re-opening of the Portishead line).
Beers on tap were Doom Bar and Courage Best whilst ciders were well represented with four from Thatcher’s – Dry, Gold, Haze and Heritage. All in all this seemed a solid enough local’s pub, but probably not one that it’s worth making a special journey to get to.
