Originally built as a private house in the Jacobean period, this grade 2 listed building was converted to a shop in the 20th Century, and it became a thereafter. It’s now been internally refurbished, hiding much of its original character, but keeping some architectural features. The inside isn’t listed though, so I guess they can do what they want. It’s more of a late-night party venue than a pub, doesn’t open lunchtimes and doesn’t do food. There is a long, modern new bar, with the usual bank of megakeg offerings, and they do various cocktail offers. Atlantic IPA and Offshore from keg was the best they had, so at least they’re acknowledging the ‘craft’ set. You have to book a table in two hour slots to allow for cleaning between parties, it’s noisy and there’s no real ale. Clearly I don’t mirror their target demographic, so I doubt I’ll be looking back fondly.
