This is a detached pub, built around 1938 on the site of the Green Rock House (so named it is said for the greenish stone used in construction) to feed the developing area of Blakenall. The pub is almost unobtrusive, hardly advertising itself. It has a mock-Tudor barn look on two levels, in beams and white, with a front gable and dormer windows. A few benches are at the front.
The interior had a single L-shaped room that i saw. You enter into a corridor that has its own access to the bar (out-sales), with the main bar through a door to the left. The decor has plain cream walls with a brown carpet floor (with some red tile around the bar) and white tile ceiling. The is a pool table and a dart board, as well as a punch-bag machine for entertainment. There was a large pull-down screen which had a footy match on and there was no music. Some Manchester Utd stuff - pictures and mirrors were on the walls. The pub doesn't do food. The service was fine - and the place was busy with a local clientele - it is very much a locals place.
Beer; usual keg drinks with no real ale handpulls, although there is Banks's MILD cask on electronic tap.
It is very much a community pub, but nothing really for a real ale drinker.
