Strongers . left this review about Victoria Cross
The Victoria Cross is a rectangular corner plot boozer with strip wood flooring and green painted walls throughout with varying shades of worn red leather chairs, bucket seats and armchairs. A 1970s pine bar and back bar sit in the middle of the rear wall where standard and premium keg is available alongside Neck Oil and three hand pumps, one of which was in use drawing Brimstage Brewery’s New Zealand Pale. During a recent early Monday evening visit muted horse racing was on the television while music too loud to be classed as in the background played. Now I’ve visited I think I’ll be walking past when next passing by.

a reliable if generic corner boozer near the bus station and main shopping drag. all the seating is along the side and gets taken by old men very early in the day, so you often have a huddle of bar blockers stood around in the worst positions possible , hence I usually walk past this pub. when it's less busy it's pleasant though. six hand pumps but half are never used anymore. Doom Bar and something from Big Bog available today.

Formerly called something which I've forgotten (though I think its got something to with courts)/Rubens Bar/Ned Kellys. Its run by the same people who have The Richmond and The Lord Warden in town. Its a one roomed affair with a selection on real ales. 2 tellies at either end of the room show footy and horsey things. As noted it does have a good collection of WWI/Forces memorabilia. Its the best of the 3 they have as far as I'm concerned.

Old Boots left this review about Victoria Cross
Corner pub on busy cross roads and GBG 2014 listed. As the name suggests there is an heroic theme, decor is mainly regimental badges, military drums and a list of VC winners from Liverpool. The list is headed by Captain Noel Chavasse VC and Bar, who's father the Bishop of Liverpool gave a park to the city in his memory, it's now under Liverpool One. Six pulls of decently kept local and national ales, plus 2 T-bars of national keg brands. A single room with big windows and furnished with leather captain style chairs, armchairs and sofas at cast iron tables. Middle aged but cheerful male customers in the main during my lunchtime visit. It handily links the Cavern quarter pubs with the Dale St ones.

An average pub as far as the interior goes. The pub does source some good local ales and is worth a look in for that alone. The majority of time you will see a beer from George Wright or Southport Brewery. I was very lucky on this visit and both were on, George Wright Blonde Moment, Southport Brewery Dark Night and Carousel.

ROB Camra left this review about Victoria Cross
A new entry in the CAMRA GBG2013 so we went and had a look. Since the pubs rename and refurbishment the theme is now the Victoria Cross of which there are a couple of mock ups in the pub and a board commemorating the local winners. There's also a very interesting bronze behind the bar. The clientele was more towards the mature end, in fact I think the average age went down when we walked in and we're not spring chickens ourselves. Racing UK was showing on the screens, but this may not always be so as there was a meeting on at Aintree when we visited. 4 handpumps on the bar serving changing guests. My pint of Purple Moose Glasyn Ale was well kept although a bit malty for me. It's not a place to go out of your way for, but if your doing the Dale Street Ale Crawl it's worth a small diversion to call in.
