Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Red Lion Inn
Basic town local, with a L-shaped bar, another seating area down a few steps on the right-hand side and the pool table on a slightly raised area to the left. All parts plain looking, verging on rundown. Just Otter Ale (£3.30) available from a total of five handpumps (including a bespoke Doom Bar one). Took me a while to realise that I had been here before (in 2016), but it's hardly a memorable place...

Well described below, we found a friendly local, though it was robust and definitely had no frills. The regulars were interested in our dogs, the jukebox was much too loud, the gaming machines sat unused and the Doombar, still the only ale on offer, was average. A spit-and-sawdust pub without the sawdust.

Fairly bland town centre pub where I was the only customer on my Wednesday lunchtime visit. The landlord was in the process of cleaning the place when I arrived.
Doom Bar is still the regular real ale. Although 6X was also available as a guest. I didn't fancy either, but even the soft drink choice was extremely limited.
I'm sure that with a few people in, there could be a decent atmosphere in here. But otherwise, this has very little going for it.

A fairly gloomy interior in this locals' pub, which looks bigger from the outside than it seems inside. There is a large central bar area with a games room one way and a dining room the other. Only Doom Bar apparent on the ale front but it was drinkable enough.

friendly welcome from staff and locals. Nice ales. Not dog friendly, although we were told we could bring our dog in, our dog chased by landladys growling dog. Will not return.

The Red Lion is a smallish pub that is close to the centre of Axminster.
Once inside the pub was quite comfortable with one room and also a dining area which was empty.
There was a good choice of beers on the bar with four real ales being on i had a dring of Branscombe Vale Branoc and this was a decent drink the other beers were Otter Ale, Otter bitter and Cotleigh Tawney bitter.
Pub visited 20 August 2002.
