This old pub on the edge of the village, built in local limestone, has been turned around, so that the main entrance is now from the car park behind and the original front door, which once had a choice of internal doors to bars either side, has now been boarded up with regard to the bar on the right, and the bar on the left is something of an overflow and was not in use at the time of my arrival. This all became clear to me while I waited for the landlord to serve his regulars, during which time it also became clear that the only beer available was going to be Old Speckled Hen. (A Castle Rock Harvest Pale pump clip was seen on the other bar, but not in the main bar.) The room itself is quite pleasant, with unusual bench seating around the walls and a gaggle of locals around the bar, none of whom were drinking real ale. The beer, when it arrived, was banana-ish and fairly unpleasant. I cursed my luck - my previous pub had produced a slightly sour Batemans XXXB and I'd been hoping to drown the residual taste with something better - and hoped I would still have time for a decent beer in Lincoln before my train home. This was a disappointing end to my cycle ride to photograph some of the previously photoless pubs in this part of Lincolnshire. Looking on the bright side, at least I won't have to come back.
