Good standard pub which I have visited many times and am always impressed by the selection of beers which are listed on blackboards so you don't need to be peering at the pumps to find out what strength you are asking for. Where I sat I could see a sign for the Chaplain's Office next door. Don't know if that is ominous or not!

Lovely preserved waiting room on main platform of the railway station.

It has a slightly cold feel, but lovely set up with central bar & roof lights. Many beers of superb quality!

A great start/finish to a day trip to York or it's worth splitting your train journey. Opens at 10:00 am mon-sat & 11:00 am sun. Numerous cask ales and "craft keg" listed on two blackboards.

The York Tap is situated on York train station and has entrances from the platform and outside.
Once inside there is a decent sized room with a large island bar, there are far too many pumps on the bar to take n what beer i wanted so i opted for the one nearest to me with a low gravity,i had a drink of Stancill Barnsley Bitter which went down very well.
The seating is mainly normal tables and chairs.
The pub was fairly busy with proper beer drinkers who seemed to know what they were talking about,so i decided to sit outside and watch the trains go by.
This is a very good addition to Yorks pub stock.

The York Tap is a station pub with access via the street and a platform in the station where there was some cafe seating during my recent Friday morning visit. The interior consists of a large island bar that supports twenty hand pumps and twelve taps that were dispending craft keg. I noticed that bar snacks were available, but I didn’t see any hot meal options. This pub opens an hour earlier than the norm so the doors are ajar at 10am Monday to Saturday and 11am on Sundays.

There are no televisions here, but there was some low background music that was drowned out by the chatter of some beardy shed dwellers that were about to embark on a pub crawl of York. I found the staff to be very friendly and my pint was well served.

This pub is an excellent meeting place and I consider it a destination pub. I will certainly return here next time I find myself in York.

We utilised the York Tap at the beginning and at the end of our crawl of some of the best Ale pubs of York and it certainly did not disappoint. All 20 of the hand pumps were in operation providing an excellent choice of beer breweries and styles. On arriving I went for the Spire Brewing Dark Side, a 4.3% ruby Ale at a wallet pleasing £1.50 a half for a Londoner.
With plenty of space either side of the central serving area to accommodate the waves of transient travellers this place attracts, the interior is well described by others and I thought it had more of a vibe of a proper pub rather than a station bar.
If every main line station had one of these, train travel would be much more pleasant.

It wouldn't have seemed right had I been the only member of the PuG crawl team not to have found time to visit this superb pub, and luckily I found time to fit in a swift one while waiting for a train to London on the Sunday. As station bars go, this one is easily the best that I've ever visited. As the building started life over 100 years ago as tearooms it's good to see it back satisfying the thirsty needs of rail travellers. It's been well described by previous reviewers.

A building of superb grandeur; comfortable seating; more great beers than you can shake a stick at - it definitely ticks all the boxes. Well worth making the time to visit.

Straight off the train and in the door, this was a worthy beginner to an excellent couple of days in York. You can access off the platform or from outside the station, a fine building with much deserved awards from CAMRA and English Heritage, mosaic style stone floor, stained glass leaded windows and domed rooflights, dark wood carved fire surrounds with mirrors above, moulded ceiling with a series of arches. Décor includes some interesting and rather unusual railway related photos.
Seating is traditional at standard tables plus stools at a drinking shelf and along the central circular island bar. There are no less than twenty hand pumps split into batches of ten plus twelve keg fonts. I won't list all those beers and they change all the time, I had a Bristol Beer Factory Sorachi on arrival which was superb (£3.50) and a Thornbridge Kipling on the way home. All the beers are listed on boards by name, ABV and price so no nasty surprises at the counter.
York Pie Co pork pies and local Hartley's sandwiches are served, you can also get a mixed cheese slate with oatcakes and chutney for £5.50.
My first and my last pub of my too short York trip, an essential port of call.

A perfect place to start and finish a York pub crawl, walk straight off the platform into it, large enough to handle a steady stream of thirsty punters and probably the best range of beer in York to satisfy all tastes. One not to miss.

Situated on the platform at York railway station this is a must visit for the real ale drinker. A vast selection of ales on a large circular bar. All the beers I tried were in very good form and there is no better place to stay if you have just missed your train.
