Will Larter left this review about The Wharncliffe Arms
After being closed for nearly two years, the pub was bought in August 2012 and reopened recently after a refurbishment that has got it looking really smart. The door opens directly onto the bar, which is in the centre of one long room. The floor has stone flags near the bar, but the two ends are carpeted, each end having a fireplace. The one to the left looks like it was added in about the 1930s, and there was a log fire here on my visit. Walls are plain white with a few pictures (local scenes, a dog, a racehorse that used to belong to the new landlord) dotted about.
On the bar are two hand pumps and these were serving beers from nearby Bradfield Brewery: Farmers Blonde and Brown Cow, both at £2.35 a pint. I had just a half of the latter, as I was cycling, and this was an excellent beer in tip-top condition. It's good to know that the pub has reopened and in the hands of enthusiastic new owners it should do well. It's a pity that it's just a little too far out of Sheffield for me to make this a regular haunt.
