An Edwardian house running as a pub and B&B. It's away from the town centre, in a busy residential area. The house is set back from the road, on top of a bank, and it's reached by walking up a steep terraced garden with a paved garden area in front of the pub. The single floorboarded bar has been formed from 2 conjoined rooms with a small counter. The décor is very 1960s , and it seems to be aimed at the low-budget commercial traveller. There are a few electric guitars and framed photos on the walls to break up the garish colours. The staff were very friendly, while the majority of clients, all of whom were male, were happy just to sit and drink to excess. Food was on offer, but most people seemed to be ordering pizzas from a delivery company, which the staff didn't seem to mind. There was a pump on the bar clipped Yeovil Stargazer, though when we ordered this the barmaid disappeared round the back and came back with ready-filled glasses, claiming they were filled in the cellar. Whatever the case, then beer was in poor condition but just about drinkable as we were thirsty. Probably fine as a last-ditch B&B, but I'm not sure I'll be rushing back.
