All cities have their unique pubs and I guess this is Liverpools. One for the beer tourists and nothing wrong with that. Fine outdoor drinking area and the cells have been converted to lovely little booths. A football pub - with tvs everywhere, which may not be your thing.
Good beers - as you would expect from a CAMRA pub of the year for the last two years. I went Deya Steady Rolling Man but good cask options available

A flying visit here, mainly to have a quick look at the building. There's no hiding from it's origins and there is a good selection of cells to sit in and an open are by the bar. There is also a pleasant walled patio type of area at the entrance which was being utilised even on a chilly February evening. Kirkstall Three Swords was a good quality plae ale to enjoy while I was there.

Current Liverpool CAMRA pub of the year and a former lock-up. You can still drink in the former cells, which provide nice secluded drinking areas. One group of people even managed to close themselves in on this visit.
If you don't fancy the cells, there is a small area of open-plan seating next to the bar. 4 real ales are served. These were Kirkstall Bitter, Leeds Yorkshire Gold, Castle Rock Harvest Pale & Facer's North Star. A 5th handpull had a real cider, which was SeaCider Black Cherry.
For better weather, there is also an outdoor drinking area near the entrance.

As below: very nice pint of Kirkstall pale at a reasonable enough £3.40 and a good selection of beer styles across the five handpumps. For a new pub it’s really good and certainly a nice antidote to the trendiness around this area. Lots of areas to sit including an upstairs bar. On this visit downstairs was packed and upstairs deserted. Pleasant.

I'd been doing a crawl of heritage pubs, but when I saw in a local Camra newsletter that I picked up in the Belevedere that this place had reopened, I had to come and see. Ok, it's not a heritage pub, but when a gaol is made into a pub, that has to seen. And yes, it's perhaps more of a tourist attraction than a pub, but in fairness the new owners are making an effort on the real ale side of the business. But as I discovered, they employ someone whose job is to engage people in conversation and show them around. We confined our chat to the correct chronological sequence of late Beatles and early John/Paul/George singles, which as far as I know is something I haven't talked about in a pub before. At least, not in conversations I was sober enough to remember the next day. I had a quick look at the cells, but didn't put my claustrophobic tendency to the test by actually going inside. My half of Kirkstall Pale was in excellent condition and I enjoyed my visit here.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Liverpool 1 Bridewell
Interesting conversion of a former police gaol, especially the rather spooky cells lining the central corridor. As a listed building, the barred windows and cold stone floors have also been retained and there is naturally little in the way of decor. Fairly basic furniture throughout, supplemented by some wooden tables out in the courtyard. Four of five handpumps, offering Liverpool Organic 24 Carat Gold, Titanic Plum Porter, JW Lees 'The Governor' and Seven Brothers Water Melon Wheat Beer (£2.95). All a bit odd really, but certainly worth a visit if in the area.

Old Boots left this review about The Liverpool 1 Bridewell
Interesting eatery with a public bar at the front. As reported it's a former police station with eating areas in the old cells and still with the doors in place, it's tempting to shut a few on the diners as you pass by on the way to the gents. The bar is stone flagged with high level tables supported on barrels with high stools. Nice brick barrel vaulting as well. My visit was enlivened by the arrival of a few noisy drunk members of the lower orders - they didn't stop long. Very disconcerting that the sound system only played one channel of a stereo track. The beer was ok but not GBG quality which it's made an appearance in; I read the GBG and despair sometimes.

Well worth a visit this one. The pub interior is modern, but not overdone. The staff are friendly and helpful. There were two ales on handpump, both were spot on - Lancaster Brewery 1842 Pilsner and Liverpool Organic 24 Carat Gold.

Called in again on a Thursday evening, very quiet, it took quite a few minutes to get someone to serve us!. Only 2 ales available on the bar this time, but my pint was in decent nick. The upstairs dining room is closed at the moment

A very interesting new bar opened by Liverpool One brewery. You enter via a courtyard which has some interesting bric-a-brac of it's own into what was once the main reception area. Here there's a nicely done out bar with 3 handpumps serving a beer from Liverpool One and two guests. Upstairs is a dining room/restaurant converted from the old officers mess. Downstairs are a number of small rooms with long tables which were originally the cells. It's a very interesting place and has been extremely well done. The pint I had was in good nick as well. Be aware that it is closed all day on a Monday. We'll certainly be visiting this place again next time we're in Liverpool.
