E TA left this review about The Walnut Tree
A fairly ordinary roadside inn, recently modernised which has, sadly, masked much of its character, although the B&B accommodation is pleasant and comfortable. There is a small car park at the side, and the garden is pleasant, having both a paved patio and a grassed seating area. The restaurant area occupies most of the back half of the pub (although it has 'hotel' in the name, that is rather an optimistic description) and is carpeted, has a fairly sterile feel to it and is best described as 'functional', while the bar has a mixed floor and lacks atmosphere despite the flagstones and oak timbers. The staff were not unwelcoming, though we certainly weren't treated as valued customers. Two handpumps on, one empty and the other dispensing Doombar which was drinkable. This tree needs a change in outlook from Roots to Branches to improve its appeal and exploit its full potential.
