Will Larter left this review about The Little Acorn
A locals pub that I intended to reached by bus from just outside the town centre, but after waiting five minutes decided that in fact it's not very far to walk. Under new management at the time of my visit, there appeared to be a new bar counter made out of recycled timber, and there was a small stage in one corner for performances of live music. There were two hand pumps on the bar, but just one beer available: Old Sawley Little Jack 4.3%. If I lived around here this would make an occasional local alternative to going to what, in all honesty, are better pubs in town or at the station.

Alan Winfield left this review about New Ponderosa
When i first visited this pub in the early 80s it was called the New Ponderosa and it was a Manns tied house which was unusuall in this area of Derbyshire.
The pub is now called the Little Acorn, once inside the pub still has the same two room layout with the bar to the left and a smaller room to the right,i had a drink in the bar and this was very busy on a midweek afternoon.
There were a couple of real ales on the bar and i had a drink of Alcazar Ale and this was a very nice drink which was also very cheap the other beer was Alcazar New Dawn.
Alcazar beers are very hard to find away from the pub where it is brewed in Basford Nottingham so this was a nice surprise to see these beers in Ilkeston.
