A pleasant, traditional Lakeland stone building, which I have seen described elsewhere as a coaching inn, though it's hard to discern any evidence for this in the building as it now stands. Inside there are beams and stone flagged floors, doubtless the result of a recent refurbishment - I have been here before, around 1980, but have no clear memory of it. Untraditionally, there was a radio station pumping out pop music while I was here on my recent visit. There's a strong emphasis on food, as might be expected, but there's plenty of room for drinkers too, and a selection of local beers.
There are five hand pumps on the bar, with four ales: two from Unsworths Yard just down the road in Cartmel, one each from Hawkshead and Cumbrian Legendary Ales. The two beers I tried were both in good condition and at £3.20 a pint were not overpriced for the area. the landlord was welcoming and I found the pub atmosphere friendly.
