Back bar (a la saloon bar) accessed either through the front entrance through the front bar or through the side door on the road opposite the cemetery and called the Tudor Bar. Attractive right-angled bar where staff can walk between front and back bars. Well-worn floorboards prevailing in most of area with a few carpeted areas. Large area around back bar going off in different directions around this large space, with a feature central fireplace dividing up one of the areas. Access to small outside seating area. Quite a few screens showing the Olympics with commentary. Lots of wood panelling on the walls. Front bar (a la public bar) again had TV, pool table, dart board and a nice aspect with plenty of light from outside. Lots of Welsh sporting memorabilia on walls in this part of the pub.
There were four dispensing hand pumps in each bar offering Rev James, Brains Best, Brains SA and Brains SA Gold. Pretty standard keg offering for a Brains pub, with lagers (Moretti, Carling, Carlsberg, Cruz & Peroni), ciders (regular and dark fruits Strongbow and Thatchers Haze), Guinness and Barry Island pale ale.
Decent Brains pub, much grander than some others I have been in during this short stay in Cardiff. Almost the only punter in for short stay early evening but suspect this place does its best trade later in week and especially when there is live sport on the TV’s.
