Mark Davey left this review about The Castle Inn
We were up in this neck of the woods over the bonfire night weekend in 2017. The Castle was the nearest (only) pub within walking distance, so we thought we would give it a go.
The pub looks like it goes back many, many years with lots of local artefacts dotting the walls and shelves. The inside has been bashed about a bit and is basically a single room, split in the middle with a few steps. There are 3 bars, all opening onto the same bar space. I suspect that back in the day, the place would have been packed with farmers and farm workers, but on our damp November visit, there were about a dozen people in cuddling pints.
The top bar opens into a large dining area with what looked like a disused carvery nestling in a run down 1920's art deco bar that really needed a coat of paint. The pink walls also didn't do the pub many favours. Threadbare carpets and shabby furniture didn't help the overall look.
The beer consisted of Black Sheep and Sharps Atlantic, both of which were drinkable but not outstanding. Given the choice, we would probably have gone elsewhere but there isn't anything local.
