I'd have to agree with the previous reviewer. Situated on the other side of the main A624 from the touristy side of the village, this was the most down-to-earth of the three Hayfield pubs I visited on a Wednesday crawl. Other customers all appeared to be locals. I was the only tourist, albeit not there for the local walks.

With bare boards and low beams, it has quite a traditional feel. The bar is split into a couple of parts with 2 large TVs. One was on and showing Sky Sports News. But this was soon replaced with Countdown and it also quickly became apparent that a few old blokes had gathered specifically to watch Countdown, with the landlord also a keen participant. The presenter announced that the show wouldn't be on for a week (the locals surmised that this was due to Paralympics coverage), which didn't go down too well amongst the local faithful, as their daily routines would be disrupted for the week!

There is a games room with a pool table off to the right-hand side. Dogs are welcome and the pub does have accommodation. There is limited car parking to the front. Parking in general in the village seems to be a bit of a challenge.

4 cask ales were on - Thornbridge Brother Rabbit, Coach House Gunpowder Mild, Oakham Citra & Marble Manchester Bitter. The cider was Aspall's. My mild was ok, without being outstanding. But then, I've never been a particular fan of Coach House beers.

Of all the pubs in Hayfield, I felt more at home in here.

Last time I was here, it was Strawberries and cream for the Wimbledon Final.

This time, it was a well refreshed man, dancing to Gold on a too loud radio, carrying 6 cans of Stella in a rucksack.

This is the locals pub in Hayfield.

The front of this pub is disfigured by a smoking shelter these days, which is a shame as it's a fine old stone building. Inside it looks good, but there was a strange moistness to the air when I was here, like someone had left a tumble drier on without any ventilation. There were quite a few customers at the time of my late afternoon visit, and the atmosphere was convivial. Beers on the bar were Marstons EPA, Timothy Taylor Landlord and a beer called Cornish Mutiny from a brewery called Wooden Hand in Truro. This is one of several pretty decent pubs in Hayfield, which is easily accessed by bus from either New Mills (trains from Sheffield) or Glossop (trains from Manchester).

The Kinder Lodge is a three storey stone built pub that is situated just away from the middle of Hayfield.
There were a few picnic tables at the front of the pub and once inside i was quite surprised to see how smart this pub was,the room was carpeted and had comfortable bench seating.
There were three real ales on the bar and i had a drink of Taylor Landlord which was a very nice drink the other beers were Robinsons bitter and Banks's bitter.
I thought this was a nice pub to sit and relax in over a pint or two.
