Bucking Fastard left this review about The Gatekeeper
Nominally called the Gatekeeper but the Miller and Cater insignia dominate the exterior,so you are in no doubt about the chain ownership.Apparently this is an old building but the wood cladding and new render offer no clues as to the age,it all appears purpose built.
Once inside there are two distinct area with a lounge to the left with comfy upright chairs and sofas,a large bar and a spot where you could happily drink without eating. The gas effect fire reminds you of the chain ethos however.
The dining areas are infront of the entrance,to the right and upstairs with upmarket furniture and room to relax.Table service from waitresses.
There are three handpumps dispensing Adnams Broadside,GK IPA and London Pride sadly at lager temperature due to agressive use of a chiller indicating a lack of understanding about real ale. However the food was well cooked but is priced at a gastro premium apart form the lunchtime fixed menu of 1 couse £7.50,2 courses £9.50 and so on.
Despite the lack of atmosphere ,I found this place functional for a meal.It is close to the M11 as you exit Harlow, which is always a good idea.
