There’s been some changes here in the 14 years since I last washed-up in Ramsgate and it’s under new ownership as of 2023. A bit more cosy inside than previously recalled - nautical ephemera on the walls and comfier seating but not too far removed from the original feel. Not obvious what's on, the clips above the cooler are the key which is fine if you’re local but it made me look like tourist impersonating Mr Magoo. Anyway it looked like 6 cask and 4 ciders, my choice of Mad Cat Jester was flat and over-vented (NBSS 2). Greene King (!) Bonkers Conkers being advertised 4 months ahead of time didn't inspire confidence. Currently not GBG and doesn't look likely to get in for 2025 if my quick visit was indicative – was the weakest of the micros I visited in Ramsgate.

This brand new backstreet ‘micro-pub’ was opened only a few weeks ago and was formerly a corner shop. As you can imagine, the interior is small and is in fact only licensed for about 15 people. Named after the two-funnelled paddle steamer which operated excursions from Ramsgate to France around the beginning of the twentieth century, old photos of the ship and its crew adorn the walls. The ‘bar’ is basically a serving door (through which the toilet can be accessed). Two to three ales and a cider are usually on the go, all served direct from the barrel. Beers are usually local Kent breweries with the odd ‘foreigner’ thrown in every now and again. No keg or smoothflow here! Apple juice from the nearby Broomfield Orchard makes for nice non-alcoholic option. The Conqueror is a quiet pub -no music and TV free, which will appeal to the traditionalists. I enjoyed my visit and hope the place does well - it's just up the road from more established the Artillery Arms so the two can mutually benefit from each others presence and turn the area into a destination visit. It was a pleasure to meet Colin the owner on our visit who was very friendly and chatty, and he also explained his concept for naming the pub. He explained that his Grandfather served on the Conqueror Paddle Steamer which sailed between Ramsgate and France. He pointed out his Grandfather on one of the black and white photos on the wall and the likeness was uncanny. Beer wise, there were two dark beers from Kent Brewery Black Mirror and New Black and a mild beer from Gadd's called War Horse, which was excellent. Mrs A settled on a can of Gadds "She Sells Sea Shells" a pale ale.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Conqueror Alehouse

Compact alehouse without a counter, with up to six beers on stillage in a back room (which you need to pass through to find the toilet). The choice this time was Gadd's No 7, Wold Top Headland Red (£3.00) and Pig & Porter Slow Back, with a couple of boxed ciders available too. Limited amount of seating (mostly tall stools) and decor mostly historical information about the eponymous paddle steamer. With its friendly banter and decent beer, this micro-pub is well worth seeking out.

A brilliant idea for a straight forward ale stop (well, number of ales in fact!)

COMPACT in every sense of the word yet has all you need including a proper "enthusiast" in charge. Only recently opened on our visit there was already a cadre of regulars and the beer was in top form.

From Ramsgate station, aim right down the road, across at a set of traffic lights and keep going then, at the end of a long terrace it springs out on you from the right! If you reach the sea you've gone too far!

Well worth the walk! Note, the hours on our visit were 1100-1400 and 1700-2100.
