The original Cosy Club, this pub forms part of the imposing Arts College building with its listed grand exterior. The inside has been substantially renovated and you can still see much of the modern industrial structure despite the efforts to hide it with paintings, 'club' furniture and a multiplicity of ceiling lights. There are several galleried staircases and balconies, but no Minstrel in the Gallery, just a dull background murmer. There is a small meeting area at the entrance, a restaurant area at the back and a main bar which also had tables upstairs. It wasn't cosy – more noisy, mainly due to the free-range children who ran, jumped and screamed their way around the bar. The food looked good but was disappointing due to the use of poor quality ingredients and being over-cooked. The presentation was naff – over-cooked chips in silly galvanised jugs just doesn't cut it. Only one ale on, Cruiser, which was much too cold and lacking in flavour. Although the original, this Cosy Club is a very poor example for its cousins in Salisbury and Bournemouth.

Nice atmosphere, probably more for the unfer 35s. Food was very disappointing on first visit and more so on the second. Won't be eating there again, but ok for a drink with friends if in town centre.
