Blue Scrumpy left this review about Butchers Arms
Having just had a very enjoyable visit to the other pub in Woolhope, the Butchers Arms was always going to struggle to meet any kind of expectations. Situated on the edge of the village, it has a very worn and rustic look from the outside. However on the inside it more rustic than worn with several drinking spaces spread around a central bar which can be found to the right-hand side of an entrance corridor. There is a further small dining room off to the left.
The bar has a low beamed ceiling. It's clear that even an average height person has to duck in places here and there are pads on the beams to prevent some injuries. On entrance, I instantly noticed how warm it was. A wood burner was blazing and I wasn't the only visitor to comment how warm it was (a postman offered a similar comment). But the barmaid was seemingly cold!
With just a couple of other customers finishing their lunch, the pub did seem to lack atmosphere. Although, it was mid-afternoon on a Friday and therefore possibly one of the quietest times for what appears to be a food-led pub. Pop music was playing in the background.
One noticeable thing about the pub was that somebody had obviously spent a lot of time collecting those humorous signs that you often see in pubs. An example being "Bar Rules - If you're still standing you need another drink". These seemed to be scattered liberally around the room. Perhaps if you are only an occasional pubgoer, these may prove to be of some amusement. But I have to say that I find them a little tacky.
Wye Valley Butty Bach is the regular beer. They also had Wye Valley Bitter & Butcombe Original. There was no sign of any real cider, or any house beers mentioned in the previous review.
I did like the building. It has plenty of character, perhaps spoiled somewhat by the "humorous" signs. I probably saw the pub at its quietest time, but it lacked a little something and wasn't a patch on the Crown at the other end of the village.

Will Larter left this review about Butchers Arms
A small roadside pub with low beams, appropriately padded in places. An A-board outside dates the pub to the 19th century, but the building looks considerably older. It appears to be food oriented, at least at lunchtime, but there were four real ales on the bar (see photos) and some real cider too. Their own brewery was established in 2016, but I swerved their Godiva, whose pump clip described it as "refreshing, blonde and fruity", but perhaps more importantly 4.6% abv, which I try to avoid when cycling. I went for the Wye Valley Bitter 3.7% which was in good condition. I liked it here - my notes made at the time include the phrase "unspoilt by progress" - but it's a seriously out of the way location and it would be a surprise if I ever found myself returning.
