The building dates from the 16th Century, but the external charm has been largely lost due to the development of other village houses around it, making it feel a bit cramped and rather like a holiday village. There is a small carpark at the front, and while there's no proper garden as such, there are some wooden benches and tables adjacent to the carpark, plus a small covered smoking area with what looked like an old school table. Inside there are 2 main bar areas, though the various building alterations have made them a bit haphazard, and the counter seems badly organised. The main bar includes a small village shop, and its main feature is a large stone fireplace. The smaller bar at the side also has a fireplace, though this is currently taken up by a large tropical fish tank. This bar also has a dartboard and a trophy cabinet with a collection of awards for, among other things, darts and golf. There is also a projector and screen. The landlady was initially quite suspicious of us, but there was no open hostility. Two ales on, Tribute and Potholer. The Tribute had gone off and wasn't drinkable, but the Potholer was in good condition. This is fine as a local, but it lacks any real draw unless you're desperate for a pint or want to buy a newspaper.
