Will Larter left this review about The Malt
Formerly the Malt Shovel (but why change?) and quite nicely done in fairly plain black and white half timbered fakery. It's a back street village local whose aspect is somewhat spoilt by all the cars parked in front. Once inside it has been the victim of a modern decorator, with various shades of grey dominating anything that stood still long enough to have paint applied to it. There seems to have once been some quite nice wood panelling, there's an old off-sales window and some of the doors may have been quite interesting, but now it's only of interest to publishers of paint catalogues.
From the entry where the off-sales window can be seen, the bar is through the door to the right, with five hand pumps offering four beers (see photos - nothing local). It was quite busy here on a midweek lunchtime, with eight or nine people eating, so I took my beer through to the room on the left, which was unoccupied. There were some black & white photos on the walls, and some subdued 1970s pop music on the sound system. My half of Doom Bar was fine (NBSS 3 or possibly 3.5). Service was friendly and the beer was good, but this is not really my sort of pub.
