Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Angel Inn
The Angel Inn is the latest venture of the 1936 Pub Company. It has taken over the premises that used to be the Maggie May cafe on what is one of Liverpool city centre's main shopping streets. There is also a rear entrance onto Wood Street where we entered from after a swift visit to the Swan Inn opposite.
The Angel has many similarities with other pubs in the group, featuring a distressed interior and bare boards. It is spread over two floors. Toilets are upstairs and there is another bar up there stocking a more limited beer selection. On the ground floor, the bar has 8 handpulls. Bass is going to be a regular ale. Guests were Theakston Best Bitter, Neptune Ventura & Waterfront, Vocation Lo-Fi, Brimstage Trapper's Hat & Higson's Best Bitter. Lilley's Mango Cider was also on handpull. I could see a craft beer but didn't note it.
The beer range here is very similar to other pubs in the chain. So, whilst this pub adds to the city centre's pub options, it doesn't necessarily offer any difference to beers found elsewhere. Nevertheless, I'm sure I'll be back here quite often. Being smaller than other pubs in the group, it may get quite crowded at times, given its prominent location.
