Will Larter left this review about The Sandford Arms
A large double building made of local red sandstone, but the right hand side has been faced with some ashlar that looks like it might be limestone, though I didn't take a close look. The entrance is through this part but the bar is on the left and faces rearwards, having a couple of hand pumps. Just Timothy Taylor Landlord on, in pretty good condition (NBSS 3.5) though the landlord (small L) receives a lower mark for failing to engage with my feeble attempt at small talk. Perhaps he was upset that I didn't order food. The interior of the pub is dominated by tartan upholstery on the chairs - I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure these red and grey designs are not traditional. And I'm certain that they're garish and in poor taste. Perhaps that's why he was grumpy - that, or the naff radio station that was playing constantly. I know that would get on my nerves, but luckily I could drink up and leave.
